Liposuction – Lipoplasty
Liposuction is the most common cosmetic surgical operation performed worldwide. It is not a weight loss operation but more of a contouring procedure. It may be an option for people who want to reduce bulges of fat that have resisted diet and exercise. Dr Randle uses a tumescent technique with PAL (power assisted liposuction) system. This offers the option for the removed fat to be grafted (transferred) to desired regions or areas where there may be contour deficiencies (see fat grafting section).
Depending on the volume to be removed and transferred, the procedure is performed as a day surgery or overnight stay. Small incisions are used to extract fat with a cannula. Elastic compression garments are usually put on after surgery and worn for up to 5 weeks. Most patients describe the surgery as uncomfortable but not painful. The results are dependent on the degree of skin shrinkage and amount of remaining fat.
